- Beschreibung: The early stages of system design are usually associated with the complex challenge of identifying and choosing a valid product solution/design that will fulfil all new product requirements and optimize its performance, cost, and other aspects. Typically, there are many more architecture options than what common design methods can accommodate, and designer’s experience and/or heuristics are used to select a subset of (typically non-optimal) solutions that are considered relevant. Generative engineering is an approach which exploits computational and AI techniques to create and assess a potentially very high number of conceptual variants during the early system design. By using specific models which allow for embedding engineering knowledge and constraints, engineers can express which components an architecture can embed, how these components can interface, and which evaluation models can be used to assess functional and non-functional requirements of a potential solution. Earlier in 2021, Siemens Industry Software released their new tool for generative engineering under the name “Simcenter Studio”. This presentation will detail some of the essentials of generative engineering with the tool and show how it can integrate with different solutions for behavioral simulation for quantifying product performance. The presentation will also highlight a number of exemplary approaches in the automotive, aerospace, and other sectors.
